New Board Elected

Worklab's General Meeting was held in Tampere 13 August 2010. The Minutes will be online soon. Peter Ludvigsen resigned the board after being the Chairman of Worklab since 1997. The new chairman is Kalle Kallio who works as a museum director at the Finnish Labour Museum. The new members of the board are Morten Bo Alstrup from Denmark and Dagmar Kift from Germany.

From the left, Morten Bo Alstrup (Treasurer, Workers' Museum, Denmark), Kalle Kallio (Chairman, The Finnish Labour Museum), Udo Wiesinger (Vice Chairman, Museum Arbeitswelt Steyr, Austria), Peter Ludvigsen (former Chairman, Workers' Museum, Denmark), Dagmar Kift (LWL-Industriemuseum, Germany), Nicholas Mansfield (Secretary, The People's History Museum, UK), Torsten Nilsson (Museum of Work, Sweden). José Gameiro (Museu de Portimão, Portugal) is missing from the picture.

Reusing the Industrial Past

ICOHTEC - The International Committee for the for the History of Technology and TiCCIH - The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage and History are organising a joint conference at Tampere, Finland in 10th -15th of August 2010. The minor partner in the conference is Worklab, the international association of labour museums.

The meeting will be a joint-conference, and it´s theme is broad enough to cover various approaches.
The programme of the conference will include over 270 presentations in scientific sessions and plenary sessions, business meetings and general assemblies of organising organisations, excursions, social events, such as receptions and the banquet, and possible pre- and post-conference trips.

One of the most striking features of digital media in museums today is their potential for linking and integrating resources, spaces and users in an abundance of ways. Museums can share content and gain exposure as well as work across online and onsite, users can contribute to knowledge production and choose between different exhibition platforms, and experiences and knowledge can be mediated through a variety of channels.
